The following poem was written by Kathleen McKee Snyder for River Poets Journal. River Poets invited readers to submit “napkin-pocket poems” - short poems that could fit on a napkin - to celebrate National Poetry Month (which, by the way, happens every April). Kathleen thought that April, the beginning of spring, was a perfect time to write something about love. Enjoy!
If Love Was Hay
I’d gladly be a horse.
I’d eat my fill each day,
Then roll in it and
Kick my heels up in it.
I would drink in its fragrant scent
and savor its sweet taste.
If love was hay,
I’d gladly be a horse.
